Description
The Gallagher S20Li Solar Energiser is a handy step up from the smallest solar units, giving you a bit more output while still keeping things lightweight, portable and easy to manage. It’s a good option for strip grazing, small paddocks and short runs of fencing where you want something simple and self-sufficient.
It runs from a built-in lithium battery with a 3.8W solar panel, so there’s no ongoing cost of replacing batteries and no need to carry heavy 12v setups around the field. One of the main advantages with these lithium units is that they charge in daylight rather than needing full sun, which makes them far more usable in UK conditions. Even on overcast days, it will continue to top itself up and keep the fence running.
In real-world use, this energiser is best suited to fences up to around 1–1.5km, depending on how clean your fence line is. It’s ideal for rotational grazing setups, temporary paddocks or smaller grazing areas, particularly where convenience and portability matter more than outright power.
It’s still important to be realistic about what it can do. This isn’t designed for long permanent fences or pushing through heavy vegetation. It’s also not suitable for electric netting, as nets tend to draw more power than a unit of this size can comfortably supply.
Setup is straightforward. It comes with connection leads, but you’ll still need to use a proper earth stake (ideally 0.5m-1m) and get it into damp ground to get the best performance. As always, earthing is key — a poor earth will reduce the effectiveness of any energiser, no matter how good it is.
If you want something simple, portable and more capable than entry-level solar units without stepping up to a larger system, the S20Li is a solid choice.
7-year warranty when registered with Gallagher within 3 months of purchase.
