Description

7 Year Warranty*

The Gallagher S60Li Solar Energiser is where the solar range really starts to come into its own. It’s still compact and easy to move around, but with noticeably more output than the smaller units, making it a very practical option for strip grazing, multiple paddocks and short to medium permanent runs.

It runs from a built-in lithium battery paired with a 5.6W solar panel, so there’s no ongoing battery cost and no need to lug heavy 12v setups around the field. One of the big advantages with these lithium units is that they charge in daylight rather than needing direct sun, which makes them far more reliable in typical UK weather. Even through dull spells, the unit will keep topping itself up and ticking along.

In terms of real-world use, this is a solid choice for fences up to around 4km in good conditions, or slightly less if you’ve got a bit of grass touching the line. It’s got enough power to cope with longer strip grazing runs and more demanding setups, and it will also handle a small amount of netting, although we’d still be cautious about relying on it for multiple nets long term.

Setup is straightforward. It comes with the leads and mounting bracket, but you’ll still need to add a decent earth stake (ideally 1m) and get it into damp ground. As with any electric fence, a poor earth will hold this back more than anything else. Mount it off the ground, keep the panel facing daylight (south or south-west ideally), and keep vegetation off the fence line to get the best from it.

Compared to the smaller S16Li and S30Li, this feels like a more capable, less “borderline” solar unit — something you can rely on for day-to-day grazing setups without constantly wondering if it’s doing enough.

If you want a proper working solar energiser without stepping up to a full 12v system, this is a very good middle ground.

Standard stuff from Gallagher. Good, sturdy case holding the kit that’s straight forward to use and just works. The 7yr warranty shows the confidence in Gallagher’s energisers

*Comes with 2yr warranty as standard but extended to a 7 Year Warranty* when registered with Gallagher within 3 months of purchase. Internal battery has 3 month warranty. See Gallagher Warranty Info for more info.

When This Isn't The Right Choice

If you’re fencing long permanent boundaries, heavy vegetation or large acreage, this still isn’t a replacement for a mains or larger 12v energiser. It’s a strong solar unit, but like all solar, it has its limits.

If you’re planning to run an electric nets or relying heavily on netting long term, you’ll get more consistent results from a more powerful energiser designed specifically for that job. I know the manufacturers (and our competitors) will tell you that this can run nets but although it has a decent output joule rating for that, we think the output voltage @500 Ohms is a wee bit too small.

It’s also not the best choice if you’ve got poor earthing conditions (very dry, sandy ground) and can’t install a proper earth system — the unit will only ever perform as well as the earthing allows.
