The Gallagher S30Li Solar Energiser is a step up from the smaller solar units, offering more output and better flexibility while still keeping the convenience of a compact, all-in-one setup. It’s a good fit for strip grazing, paddock fencing and short to medium fence runs where dragging a 12v battery around simply isn’t practical.

Like the rest of Gallagher’s lithium range, it combines a built-in lithium battery with a 3.8W solar panel, so there’s no need to swap batteries or worry about ongoing running costs. One of the big advantages is that it charges in daylight rather than needing direct sunshine, which makes a real difference in UK conditions. Even through dull weather, it will continue to top itself up and keep the fence running.

In real-world use, this unit will comfortably handle fences up to around 2km under good conditions, making it suitable for larger strip grazing setups, multiple paddocks or slightly more demanding fencing than the smaller solar units can cope with. It’s still lightweight and easy to move, so ideal if your fencing layout changes regularly.

That said, it’s still a solar unit, so it’s important to stay within its limits. It’s not designed for long permanent boundary fences or heavy vegetation, and while it has more power than smaller models, it’s not a replacement for a mains or larger 12v energiser in tougher conditions. It can power a small amount of netting, but generally we’d recommend something stronger if you’re relying on nets long term.

As always, earthing makes a big difference. We recommend using a 1m earth stake (not included) and making sure it’s driven into damp ground where possible. Poor earthing will reduce performance far more than the energiser itself.

If you want something portable, low maintenance and noticeably more capable than entry-level solar units, the S30Li is a solid choice.
