Description
The Gallagher M650 Mains Energiser is designed for long fence runs and larger livestock setups, where you need enough power to carry a pulse over distance and through some load on the line. It’s best suited to sheep and cattle farms, particularly where fencing is spread across multiple fields or boundary runs.
With 4.5 joules of output energy, it will handle multi-wire fences up to around25km in good conditions, and still perform where there’s some vegetation or pressure on the fence. This makes it a good fit for longer boundary fencing, bigger grazing areas or setups where smaller energisers start to fall short.
It is powerful enough to run a number of electric nets, and manufacturers will often list it as suitable for that use. However, in practice, we don’t generally recommend pairing higher output energisers like this with netting. Because nets sit close to the ground, you tend to get more frequent arcing, and with a unit of this size that can be quite harsh over time. This can lead to premature wear or damage to the netting, so for long-term use, a slightly smaller energiser is usually the better option.
Installation is standard for a mains unit. It needs to be mounted indoors or in a dry location, with lead-out cable going to both the fence and the earth system. As with all higher output energisers, earthing is critical. We’d recommend at least 3 proper earth stakes (1m or longer), and more if you’re on dry or sandy ground. Without a good earth, you won’t get the benefit of the extra power.
The unit itself is simple — LED indicator to show it’s running, built-in lightning protection, and a solid housing that will stand up to everyday use. It’s not part of the i-Series, so you’re not getting monitoring features or remote control — just a straightforward energiser that does the job.
If you’re covering a fair amount of ground with sheep or cattle and need a unit that will keep the fence working properly over distance, this is where this model fits.
7-year warranty when registered with Gallagher.
